My cat has an automatic feeder that dispenses food three times a day. Even though she spends most of her day upstairs in my bedroom, she can hear it when it releases the food down in the kitchen, Most of the time.

If she doesn’t hear it, though, she doesn’t go looking for food when she’s hungry. She knows when it’s time to eat, because she starts to whine and get in my face, but she won’t go check out her dish. On these occasions, she requires me to escort her to the kitchen, which is especially annoying at the 4 am feeding time.
