D.I.Y Necklace Inspired by Tom Binns (image: passionsforfashion)

I did something like this with a cheap rhinestone necklace. It looks pretty good! And it was fun.

Hanging Jewelry Organizer from Utensil Holder
A couple of things:
If you glue a sheet of cork to the back of this, the cup hooks won’t poke out the other side of it.
I’d spray-paint this before putting the hooks on it, because the paint will probably flake off the hooks with use.

Good idea!

This is awesome!

The next time you have green onions, don’t throw away the white ends. Simply submerge them in a glass of water and place them in a sunny window. Your onions will begin to grow almost immediately and can be harvested almost indefinitely. We just use kitchen scissors to cut what we need for meals. I periodically empty out the water, rinse the roots off and give them fresh water.

I had no clue about this. Definitely going to try it.

Today in Things I Did Instead of All the Work I Really Should Be Doing:

This ugly dresser was in my bedroom when I moved into the house. Since I didn’t have one, that was a good thing, but … it was ugly. The knobs and the top were really the worst parts. Since I couldn’t find any replacement knobs I liked for a decent price, and I had a can of spray paint sitting around, I decided to just paint these ones. What I’d really like to do is paint the whole thing black and white, but the dresser (maybe?) belongs to the house, so that might get me in some trouble. I honestly don’t think the property managers will even notice that the knobs have changed, though.

The fabric on top is a couple of pillow shams that I stuck in place with double-sided tape, so it can be removed when I move (and didn’t cost me anything). Then I rubbed the whole thing with mineral oil, and that helped quite a bit.

It’s not exactly beautiful, but it isn’t such an eyesore anymore.

DIY gold owl sandals

Nice. I’d take some wire cutters and snip off the ring on the top of the owl’s head, though.

DIY: Fluro Cutlery
Love this idea!

Oh, I want to do this! If only I had better time management …
ETA: Oh, but the paint wears off … maybe I can find a better way to paint cutlery.

A simple, quick way to reuse plastic bottle tops, especially where they aren’t recyclable locally. Save rubber bands, twist-ties, and yourself from buying ziplock bags!

1. Cut around the neck of the bottle and keep the neck and top

2. Take a simple plastic bag and feed it through the neck, screwing the top on as the seal

Presto. Handy, water-tight plastic bag. Save money and the Earth, everyone wins.

Interesting … but how do you prevent the sharp edges of the bottle from tearing the bag? Seems like a risk.

A simple decorating idea: hanging vintage textiles above the bed.
This rod arrangement is pretty. If you want something with more structure/neatness, then you can buy wooden stretcher bars (available at any art supply store) to stretch the fabric over.
It’s as simple as putting the stretcher bars together, draping the fabric over them, pulling it taut, and stapling the fabric to the frame.
If you don’t have a staple gun, I’ve found that thumb tacks work just as well (stretcher bars are made of very soft wood), though it might take you longer.

This is a great idea. I want a headboard, but maybe something like this would be fun. But probably I won’t use expensive fabric, in case my cat claws it,

Now that you live on your own, it’s totally ok to draw on your walls with a sharpie … mom won’t yell at you if it looks this good!  Via: Sharpie!

Love love love. When I own a home I will do wonderful things like this to it. Maybe with chalk though.
Who will ever want to live with me.

A painted “rug.”  So I had, what I thought, was a brilliant idea, and once again a simple google search resulted in me being depressed that what I had wasn’t original.  However, I’m now obsessed with creating one of these … as soon as I get a hardwood floor.
Via: Southern Living.

My grandmother did something like this on the linoleum under her kitchen table, except she made it look like brick/stone.
She was a cool lady.

Cute as a <button!>
I haven’t the heart to just buy this for $58.
Everything you need (sanz an amazing button collection) is at Michael’s.  Come on now.

Oh wow. My mom has the world’s largest collection of buttons. Like, a huge box of ones she really has no use for. I should raid it and do this.
