I made a blog where I try to tell you how to not waste your money on expensive crap even if you are a proto-hoarder like me and “need” to buy things all the time. At least buy cheap shit that works! (Heavy on the beauty products/skincare/makeup.)

FYI, there is a Wet ‘n’ Wild FastDry polish called 9.0.2.1. Orange that looks exactly like this. It is beautiful and under $3. When I wore it it was also super durable and lasted forever.

So, this is Hits No Olimpo Hefesto. It’s a linear holographic top coat. That means you can put it on top of any polish you already have and it will turn it crazy-holographic, and you don’t have to buy all the $15 bottles of holographic polish from Ulta to get a bunch of colors. It looks amazing. I vouch for it. AWESOME.

I did ombre/gradient nails last night.
And this awesome cardigan was my mother’s when she was in high school. I’ve been wearing it for 15 years.

ipomoeaandthestarstealers answered your question: The Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polishes come in such…

I have five or six of this line and I love them.

Me too! These are maybe my favorites (but I like all the ones I have):

(Purple Pizzazz)

(The Real Teal)

(Red Carpet)

The Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polishes come in such great colors, and they work so well, and they cost like $2.

I got these today:

(Going Green. It’s what I was hoping Julep Leah was going to look like.)

(Lacey Lilac)

They’re probably filled with all those terrible poisons though, right?

And then, after three weeks with the same nail polish on, the other thing I hate about gel nail polish was that THREE WEEKS LATER I STILL HAD THE SAME DANG NAIL POLISH ON. To me, a chip in my polish is just an opportunity to grab some wine, turn on a DVR’d episode of  Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee and hang out with myself and some paint.

This. I do wish I could go more than 2 days without chipping, but 2 weeks is too long! I love colors. I want a new one a couple of times a week.

(She also does not mention how much this costs.)

Do you think it’s bad for my nails to peel/pick off my polish all the time? I cured myself of biting my nails by doing this instead, and I still find it really satisfying. But am I weakening my nails by taking off a microscopic layer of nail cells every time I do it?

Partly because it’s a stupid word. It’s not even a real word, right? I think it was just made up to describe nail polish.

Partly because it’s boring. I remember it was all over everywhere last year, and I was like:

I mean it looks okay, but I will probably only wear it with some kind of added sparkle in the future.

Okay, maybe I lied. Maybe I am compelled to remove this streaky bullshit nail polish.

6:40 pm, by muralgirl,

(Not my photo.)

So despite my misgivings when I got this polish in the mail, Julep Hayden doesn’t look quite as hideous on me as I expected. Doesn’t exactly look great, but I am not compelled to remove it immediately, at least.

However, it somehow manages to be both thin and goopy at the same time. With two coats, I can still see grayish streaks where it’s not thick enough, but it’s also kind of ridgey, so I think a third coat would be too much.

I might just end up passing this one along to someone more adventurous and patient who cam make it look as good as it does in the photo above.

But I must not buy any more nail polish until I’ve worn all the ones I have at least once.

I tried to do confetti nails, but it may just look like I have some sort of fungus.
Also, it’s hard to take a photo of your nails with Photobooth, but my camera’s battery died.

Along with 11 mineral eyeshadows that I am going to use to mix up my own polishes.

You guys, I highly recommend these polishes.* Most of the ones I bought only require a single coat for full coverage. The colors are lovely. I especially like “Red Velvet”, “Cranberry”, and “Coral”.** I’d suggest googling for swatches before you buy, though, because “Coral” is not exactly coral, for instance. It’s more of a pink with a lot of gold shimmer.

The best part is that they are only $2 each, and e.l.f. always has some promotion going on their website where if you spend $25 you get something free (at the very least free shipping). I got 10 of the mineral eyeshadows free with this order, which would normally have cost $30.

I only have two complaints. One is that my bottle of “Smokey Brown” started leaking during shipping, and it is oozing out of the bottle (still sealed with plastic) while it sits beside me on my desk. I’m going to email a photo to e.l.f. and see if they will replace it.

The other complaint is that the “Golden Goddess” polish (clear base with fine gold glitter and larger silver holo hex) smells terrible. Not like normal fumey nail polish smell, but almost … I don’t know, garlicky? It’s nasty. Looks pretty though!

* I haven’t tested them for how well they wear yet, so caveat emptor.

** The other shades I got are: Sunset, Mod Mauve, Purple Dream, Mango Madness, Desert Haze, Fire Coral, Golden Goddess, and Smokey Brown. I actually really like them all, though Purple Dream looks better in the bottle than on the nail.
